A couple weeks back, Valve, a company who is well known for such huge hits such as Portal, Left for Dead 1 and 2 and innumerable incarnations of Half-life, released a new multi-player game, Alien Swarm.
You can choose between 8 different characters which compose 4 different skills. You can choose between Officer, Special Weapons, Medic and Tech. Each having their own positives and negatives. You can join up with up to 3 other players in this top down shooter, to help blast your way through.

The entire game is not too long, however with the release of the game, Valve also released the source code and all of the mod tools necessary to build your own levels and themes. There are already a handful of mods free for download and are easily found in the game’s website forum.
For those of you who remember the oldie but goodies, Alien Swarm feels like a nice intense blend of Smash T.V. and Gauntlet. Best part of this game is that it’s free. That’s right FREE!
