A New Kind of Choose-Your-Own-Adventure

A New Kind of Choose-Your-Own-Adventure

Do you remember those books that were so much fun just because you got to choose how the story went? Big Blue Bubble Inc. remembers and they’ve partnered with the creators of the Fighting Fantasy series to bring them back in a new way. Introducing Fighting Fantasy: Creature of Havoc for the iPhone and iPad.

Big Blue Bubble is a Canada based company, known for creating iPhone games such as Pop-A-Tronic and Elven Chronicles, that has introduced the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure genre in a new format. Even though Creature of Havoc was originally published in 1986, it has been reformatted and reintroduced on the iPhone.

The game is frustrating at first, not giving you any information about who or what you are. As you travel along through Trolltooth Pass, you can learn more about yourself, and even what your destiny is. This adventure is definitely challenging. There are many wrong turns (that can kill you instantly) and loops that you can get stuck in. However, if you can make it through the challenges, the ending is nicely rewarding.

Since this is a book gone digital, you must be figuring that there are new features added in. You’d be figuring right! The book now has an inventory system, unlockable art by the original artist Alan Langford, save features (so you can go back if you die), music integration, and player achievements.

The adventure is priced at an attractive $2.99, giving you many hours of entertainment for very little money. You can download it over at iTunes. If you liked this game, be sure to check out some of the other Fighting Fantasy titles: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, Deathtrap Dungeon, and Citadel of Chaos. Also, be looking for City of Thieves coming soon!
