Raptr’s WoW Stats!

Raptr’s WoW Stats!

Some of you gamers who may take a more active role in not just gaming, but also an online community for gamers may know what Raptr is. For those of you who don’t, Raptr “is a free service for gamers that makes it easy to track gaming stats and achievements for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. In addition, millions of gamers use Raptr to see when friends are playing, as well as communicate with them in real-time” – and that’s straight from the horse’s mouth! So, let’s check out what I consider to be some really interesting stats!

This week, fans of World of Warcraft have shown they are hardcore gamers you do NOT want to mess with. Raptr has released some stats for this week for WoW: Cataclysm. First off, I’m going to give you this small piece of (not shocking) information: the top 11% of hardcore gamers are raking in the majority of overall gameplay, and one person has really made my jaw drop: the top player for WoW: Cataclysm has played 149 hours in one week! That’s 6d5h! IN ONE WEEK!

Now, that may seem like a lot – in fact, that IS a lot – and it may reinforce those stereotypes that WoW players are kids with no lives (which is mean, and you shouldn’t stereotype). However, when you consider that the overall average playtime for World of Warcraft is almost identical to that of some of the top first person shooter games, you may reconsider!

In fact, the average first-day release average playtime for WoW was just over 6 hours with the average session length being just over 2 hours. Now, that is right on par with most FPS games such as Halo and Call of Duty!

I thought that was pretty interesting and I wanted to share these stats with y’all! Well, now that you think – no, now that you KNOW – I’m a huge nerd, let me end with some more interesting facts courtesy of Raptr:

  • World of Warcraft playtime has grown 5 times since the summer of 2010, as previous subscribers flocked back to the game to drive up overall playtime to record highs.
  • World of Warcraft time played per day has grown 1.5 times since the summer of 2010.
  • World of Warcraft playtime per week has grown to 20 hours – almost double of what it was in the summer of 2010.
  • World of Warcraft stole the most playtime hours from StarCraft 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and League of Legends.

On the outside, you might think Sam is rough and tough with her always-changing hair color and tattoos, but those closest to her will tell you she's actually a book worm, plant mom, avid backcountry hiker, and lover of all things Star Wars and video games!
