SNK To Launch Neo-Geo Station On PlayStation Network

This news has pressed all of my nostalgia buttons. That’s right. All of them.

Let me set the scene for you. So, its the ’90s. Let us go back to that time. Things were neon colors for no good reason. We knew Clinton more for blowing a saxophone than for… other, more unfortunate blowing references. And arcades were still alive. Public places liked to have at least one arcade game. Us stupid kids had lots of quarters to throw into various things. So, there was this pizza place in my town. Davy Jo’s. Best pizza I’ve ever had, by the way. One of the best things about Davy Jo’s, besides the deliciousness of the pizza, was the great big Neo-Geo arcade game they had. It was one of those things that had multiple games in one cabinet. Like this:

So, this was just about the greatest thing ever. Playing Art of Fighting or whatever other games were in there, pizza grease covering the stick, button mashing; those were the good ol’ days. And I imagine that this story is replicated, in some way, in your lives. So, dear readers, it is for this reason why I am so excited to announce the Neo-Geo Station on the PSN. Launching on December 21, the Station will have games available for $8.99 for PS3 and $6.99 for PSP. The PSP versions will be released in January, except where noted. All of this is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Neo-Geo, released in 1990, and… oh God, I just realized its been 20 years since 1990. Ladies and gentlemen, I am too old. Ah well, let us see the games with which we will celebrate the Neo-Geo’s… and by extension, my own… oldness.

  • FATAL FURY (PSP 12/21)
  • ALPHA MISSION II
  • THE KING OF FIGHTERS ’94
  • SAMURAI SHODOWN
  • BASEBALL STARS PROFESSIONAL
  • MAGICIAN LORD
  • METAL SLUG (PSP 12/21)
  • LEAGUE BOWLING
  • SUPER SIDEKICKS
  • ART OF FIGHTING
  • So, 20th anniversary. Lots of games on PS3 and PSP. Ten at first to start out with more on the way in 2011. The only bad side to this is the lack of Davy Jo’s.
