Check Out Andrew Garfield As Spider-Man

We now have our first look at the rebooted web slinger. And it looks like he just had his ass handed to him.

While there are some obvious changes in the suit in comparison to the original comic book design, it is still obviously Spidey. This is good. But… what the hell is this thing made out of? It really does look like something a high school kid with no training in making clothing would make, which… well, I guess that is also good. Because Peter wouldn’t know how to make clothes. I just hope this is one of the rare moments in the film that Spidey has his mask off. You hear that Sam Raimi? Peter has a mask for a reason. It does not get ripped off every five seconds. That becomes annoying.

Spider-Man, as it is known as of right now, comes out on July 3, 2012.

I’ve been looking at this image all day and there is one thing that continues to bother me – the emblem on his chest. To me it doesn’t look like the standard spider that I associate with Spider-Man. In fact, I can’t see all of the legs and it’s not like that area of the costume is shadowed.

Instead, it looks like some curvy anthropomorphic octopus woman with her right arm (which will appear on the left) in the air, and the other is holding a blow dryer. Strange, I know, but at least I still have an imagination at my age.

Well, the theory is that this is battle-damage. Since the casting indicates either the Lizard or Proto-Goblin as the villain, and he has scratches on his face and chest, I’m guess battle damage. Anyone notice the webshooter metal on his wrists?
