Darren Aronofsky Bids Farewell To The Wolverine

I’m a fan of Darren Aronofsky. He knows what he’s doing, and he tends to surround himself with people who, in turn, know what they’re doing. This combination produces the results we’ve seen from Aronofsky. That being said, I had no idea how he would tackle a movie like Wolverine. As time passed, and more was revealed about the plot, I started hoping that Aronofsky’s The Wolverine would be a diamond in the rough; a redeeming X-Men movie. News broke yesterday, however, that Darren Aronofsky has bid The Wolverine farewell.

His reasons for leaving the project are understandable. From the Hollywood Reporter:

As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, it became clear that the production of The Wolverine would keep me out of the country for almost a year. I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time. I am sad that I won’t be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again.

I can understand not wanting to spend the time away from your family, and I can understand his hesitance to bring his family with him to Japan with the terrible tragedies they are currently experiencing. While I understand, I am still disappointed by this in two ways. My first disappointment comes for the movie that could have been, had Aronofsky seen it through. My second disappointment comes for the movie that yet may be; Lindsey joked, quite tastelessly in my opinion, that Fox would tap McG to replace Aronofsky.

Knowing Fox, it’s just the kind of thing they’d do.
