Review: Slam Bolt Scrappers (PS3)

Review: Slam Bolt Scrappers (PS3)

You know, I don’t even know why I’m doing this. I’ve said everything about the game in my preview. It’s Tetris with guns. It’s fun. The only new info I have is that multiplayer is definitely fun and the single player is way too short. But I am obligated to give some more words to this game, so lets get this thing going on.

So, first thing’s first. See that little link on the word preview in the above paragraph? You go and click on that little bastard. That’s most of my thoughts on this game in a nutshell. The PAX preview was quite thorough in convincing me that this game is worth a purchase.  Actually playing the full game has done nothing to convince me otherwise. If you have a Playstation 3, you should buy this game. Well, let me amend that a bit. If you have a Playstation 3 and three really close friends, you should buy this game. The single player is outrageously short. I beat it in a day. It was fun, but short. Multiplayer is where this game shines. Except…

Well, let’s get the good out of the way first. Multiplayer is very strong with this game. I tested it over the weekend. My friends all had a fun time learning how to make the concept of Tetris with guns work. I can foresee this being a regular party game with my close friends, which is good. By that I mean it’s good that my friends are close because this game doesn’t have online multiplayer. Guys…you guys who made this at Fire Hose Games, I have to ask: what the hell is that about? 2011…fun multiplayer game…no online? No. No. Boo. That’s just stupid. Especially when the single player is so damn short. That pretty much forces you to have friends with you in order to fully enjoy this game. Luckily I have that. Others might not. Which would be bad…for multiple reasons I guess beyond the Slam Bolt Scrappers thing. But anyways, again, what the hell?

So yeah, that’s my mini review of Slam Bolt Scrappers. Everything in my preview still holds true except for the disappointing lack of online multiplayer. Other than that it’s a great game that you should really check out. It’s a fun and original idea in a world infested with brown and grey military shooters. Give it a chance and you might find your next favorite party game.
