Ubisoft Announces New Music Game – Rocksmith

Just when we thought the music genre was dead Ubisoft announces today that they are coming out with a new guitar based game called Rocksmith. I know what you all must be thinking, “how is this any different than Rock Band or Guitar Hero?” Well, for starters you use an actual guitar to play and not some plastic peripheral. Pretty cool, no?

Since the game was just announced mere minutes ago not a lot of details are available, nor are there any full on screenshots of gameplay. Ubisoft did release an announcement trailer and some screenshots that give us a glimpse into how the game will work and what it could potentially look like. What’s awesome is that all a player has to do is use a standard quarter-inch input jack to attach their guitar of choice into their 360, PS3, or PC (sorry Wii owners).

An extensive music library is also planned as well, which will offer players current hits as well as classic jams. Some band already planned are The Animals, The Black Keys, Nirvana, Interpol, The Rolling Stones and David Bowie. The game itself will continuously adjust to the players skill level, and it will also help those learn how to read music. Tony Key, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Ubisoft U.S. had this to say about Rocksmith:

“Rocksmith is the most authentic and addicting music game ever created. Whether a beginner or a seasoned guitar vet, players progress at their own speed and walk away from the game with the ability to play songs by memory. Rocksmith is the only video game that gets players stage ready.”

Currently the game is slated to come out fall of this year, and hopefully we’ll see more of the game at E3 in June, but for now all we can do is keep an eye out on the official Rocksmith website and Facebook page.
