E3 2011: Brothers in Arms: Furious 4

Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 is a difficult game to describe. Thom took a shot and described it as Hogan’s Heroes meets Inglourious Basterds. Wait…that wasn’t very difficult at all. That pretty much nails it, actually. It’s gory, violent, and over the top like Inglourious Basters, and it’s fucking funny like Hogan’s Heroes. As a side note, I feel comfortable swearing in this because the producer presenting the game to us at E3 swore during his presentation, which makes it ok.

Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 tells the Big Fish story of four American soldiers sent on a mission to hunt Hitler during World War II. They are the type of soldiers that every other soldier wants to be: the eclectic, highly characteristic group that gets to see the adventurous, exciting side of war. Furious 4 gives you that exciting, adventurous, movie-hero war story with a great sense of humor.

The Furious 4 are wanted across Germany, as the multiple Wanted signs posted around the game’s world make clear. There’s something just so…drab about the posters, though. It’s a good thing you can go up to them and provide an autograph for each character! Montana, the lumberjack, carries a chainsaw, chain gun, pick-axes, and bear traps. Chok, the Travis Bickle looking dude, carries tomahawks. Crockett, the Texan, carries a flamethrower and cattle brands in the shape of Texas. Stitch, the Scot, carries a home-made taser which consists of prongs attached to some sort of massive battery system. Each character has unique weapons and characteristics, and everything can be upgraded. Bear traps not hardcore enough for you? You can modify them in-game by attaching grenades to them. Exploding bear traps. Yeah. That just happened.

Come 2012, Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 will be giving you some of the most entertaining local split-screen, single player, online four-player co-op, and online competitive multiplayer for the whole year. Yes, I’m calling it. Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 is tied with Star Trek for my most anticipated game of 2012 thus far.

Shit, I can’t believe I have to wait until next year for this game. I want it NOW.
