Publisher Activision announced that owners of the PlayStation 3 and PC versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops won’t have much longer to wait on the DLC package Annihilation, which will become available July 28, a scant nine days away.
Annihilation, which launched for the Xbox 360 crowd June 28, offers up four new multiplayer maps and a new map for their Zombie survival mode.
First up, the four multplayer maps. Players will be able to skirmish amid a 1960s drive-in theater, a Cuban Golf Course, a Missile Silo and a Hangar Bay (named Drive-In, Hazard, Silo and Hangar-18 respectively). No doubt the maps seem to be diverse enough. A couple of the maps, including Silo and Hangar-18 were planned to be released at launch or scrapped altogether before being placed in Annihilation.
The fifth map, named Shangri-La, is Annihilation‘s Zombie map. For the unaware, the name of the map is a nod to the mythical valley – Shangri-La, a place of paradise and utopia on earth mentioned in James Hilton’s The Lost Horizon from the 1930s. The map will host Black Ops‘ second Zombie map and is comprised of a temple riddled with traps, secrets and other hidden goodies/maladies to keep things fresh and interesting while staving off the hordes of undead hell-bent on feasting on brains. Additionally, Activision announced there will be a new kind of Zombie included with Annihilation.
Mark Lamia, studio head of Treyarch Studios–the software development studio that has worked on the rest of the Call of Duty titles–commented on how players are getting quality maps with Annihilation. “Players are getting four of the best multiplayer maps to date with Hangar 18, Drive-In, Silo and Hazard. They also get a brand new dose of thrills in Shangri-La…packed with deadly traps and dark secrets buried within the shifting walls of an ancient and mysterious temple,” Lamia said.
There has been no mention of how much the DLC will go for when it goes live July 28, but it currently costs 1200 Microsoft Points for the Xbox 360 version.
