Details on Zelda 25th Anniversary Concert/Tour Announced

Nintendo has finally announced details regarding a commemorative concert they hinted at after their symphonic tribute to the Legend of Zelda’s 25th anniversary at this year’s E3, including a couple of dates, a location, ticket prices and news of a concert tour.

First off, let’s look at the first concrete time and place we have. There will be a concert held at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles on October 21 at 8 PM. A 70-piece orchestra will be playing memorable songs from the series that are hand-picked by Koji Kondo–the man behind the epic scores players have slain evil’s minions to–and his team.

Nintendo also mentioned plans for the orchestra to go on tour beginning some time in 2012. There is currently no information regarding where the tour will be making stops or when it will start, but we do have a name: The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert Tour.

The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert Tour is being produced by Jason Michael Paul Productions, who have been responsible for producing video-game-themed concert tours like “Dear Friends,” a Final Fantasy concert tour that marked the first live performance of FF music in the states. Other projects for Jason Michael Paul Productions include “More Friends” and the “Play! A Video Game Symphony” tour, both of which met with raving success.

The symphonic tribute is fitting and no doubt also a nod to a couple of memorable titles in the series, considering a couple of the series’ landmark titles have incorporated music or a musical instrument/device as a plot device (most notably Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker with the Ocarina and Conductor’s Baton) or have included and refurbished the traditional Zelda themes (such as Zelda’s regal theme song to Link’s heroic roaming tune and Ganon’s dark and foreboding melody).

Tickets for the Pantages Theatre performance will be open for purchase starting August 1 at TicketMaster and will run from $35 to $150. To subscribe to the tour’s newsletter, follow any other happenings with the tour–or just mindlessly refresh the page to hear the song played at E3–visit the official site.

We’ll keep you up to date on any information on potential tour stops and dates as they become available.
