Review: Honeywell HCM 350 Cool Mist Humidifier

As I’ve mentioned, the air quality of the room I spend the majority of my waking, non-working life in is very important to me. I eat in that room, play in that room, relax in that room, and occasionally work in that room. I want that room to be comfortable. I want that room to envelop me and provide me with an unfettered, worry free experience. Purifying the air is part of that. Making sure the air contains the appropriate level of moisture is another part of it. The Honeywell HCM 350 cool mist humidifier enters, scene left, to save the day.

The greater strength of the humidifier is in its cleansing properties. The water tank absorbs airborne bacteria, killing it in the water before producing an evaporating mist to reintroduce moisture into the dry air around you. The Honeywell HCM 350 claims that it manages to kill 99.9% of certain bacteria, mold, fungus, and virus after two hours of continuous use, including E. Coli, P. Citrinum, A. Niger, and MS2. Of course, I can provide no statistical evidence to support this. I can merely submit that, paired with the efforts of the Honeywell HPA-150 air purifier, the air in my entertainment lair steadily improved over a three week period.

The humidifier can run for 24 hours on a single tank, and runs very quietly. Cleaning the device is easy, as the water tank is dishwasher safe. To explain…no, that would take too much time…to sum up, the Honeywell HCM 350 runs for 24 hours on a single fill, provides no more noise than a simple white noise machine, kills bacteria, etc., eases your breathing, and is easy to clean and maintain. Available for around $69.99 at certain retailers, this becomes another matter of balancing the cost against the long-term effects of the humidifier.
