Sumioni: Demon Arts Arriving on Vita this Spring

One thing I was really worried about leading up to the launch of the PlayStation Vita was that developers would use the new features and functionality of the hardware in gimmicky and unnecessary ways. So far, I have been pleasantly surprised with the launch titles and their sense of control and direction when approaching the Vita hardware’s capabilities. One title that looks like it is going to fit in well is Sumioni: Demon Arts, coming to the Vita “this spring.”

Sumioni, which literally translates from Japanese as “Ink Demon,” is an action oriented title presented entirely in the “sumi-e” traditional Japanese art style with strong touch mechanics. Strokes on the front touch screen result in ink lines appearing on the screen for Agura, the game’s protagonist ink demon, to interact with. They can also be used to summon the “demon arts,” such as magic attacks and assistance summons. Your supply of ink is limited, and can be replenished by furiously rubbing the back touch panel.
