Review: Marvel Super Heroes Magazine Issue 1

Review: Marvel Super Heroes Magazine Issue 1

So, here we have Disney and Marvel’s activities magazine for youngsters. Let’s take a look and see what we have.

Right off the bat, I have to say it: this book is not meant for a comic fan my age. This skews closer to the 8 to 10 year old crowd. That said, I have to admit that if I was in this age range I’d probably enjoy this magazine a lot.

The thing about Marvel Super Heroes is that it’s an easy way for new young readers to get into the Marvel Universe. When I was a child, I had to hope that a comic would flashback or have a storyline or reprint in order to grasp the vast continuities involved. Granted, in our Internet age, they probably could learn all that. But still, it’s fun seeing this information presented in an easy-to-understand way.

The comic aspect of it is a short two-part story (separated by various activities), this month focusing on Thor in a tale about learning a lesson. The rest of the magazine is filled with various puzzles to test young minds. And the added features focus on the Avengers, with a history of the team, a rather impressive roster list of prominent members, and a versus section about the Avengers vs. Loki.

At the end of the day, I think this is a decent magazine for young fans to get into the Marvel universe in an easy way. If you have kids, I suggest letting them read a few, see how they like it.

ProsCons
A really well-done way to help young new fans of Marvel get into the comics, and the activities are well done for the age range as well.It does skew towards a much younger audience.
