One month after the announcement of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (which was itself only about four months after the retail release of its predecessor, Assassin’s Creed III), we are treated to its first gameplay trailer. We see that a great deal of naval combat returns from Assassin’s Creed III, which stood as that title’s strongest feature. There also appears to be underwater combat and exploration. Finally, there was absolutely no mention of the Animus or of a descendant controlling Edward Kenway. On the one hand, it could be something that Ubisoft is holding back for later impact. On the other hand, with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag obviously taking place prior to Assassin’s Creed III, it may be nothing more than a stand-alone adventure taking advantage of the best features Assassin’s Creed III had to offer and one of the most interesting and entertaining time periods in recent history.
Keep an eye out at the end for some recently announced pre-order bonuses as well.
