Latest Nintendo Direct promises an Autumnal Bounty of Fun

It’s slightly old news by now, but on October 1st Nintendo dumped a truckload of new information on us regarding upcoming Wii U and 3DS. One of the cool things they revealed, besides Princess Peach doing a feline floaty jump, was the new cherry power-up in Super Mario 3D World. When one of the Mario Menagerie grabs this cherry they are duplicated. This will surely add some new and unique gameplay scenarios!

While this may be the most adorable thing ever, you will NOT like what you see if you search for “Princess Peach Cat”.

Lately there has been a ton of buzz on Miiverse demanding that Sonic return as a playable character in the upcoming Wii U and 3DS installment of Super Smash Bros., and Nintendo delivered. I’ve never really been a fan of the series, but it does look like it could be a console seller for Wii U. Wii Party U got some much needed coverage as Nintendo featured a unique minigame that really showed off the asymmetrical gameplay that has been made possible with the Wii U’s unique hardware.

Alas, all the news delivered was not good. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Jungle Freeze has been pushed back to February of 2014. To counterbalance this saddness, they announced a new entry in the ultimate game franchise for those who love all that is good, right, and happy in the world. Next year a new Kirby game for 3DS will be hitting store shelves.

In case you didn’t catch that, I said…NEW KIRBY GAME.

How can you be sad when you see this face?

There was a lot more 3DS goodness discussed, but my eyes glazed over and I started singing Kirby music after I heard that announcment. Feel free to check out the video below if you want some more info!

As a youngin’, Aron cut his gaming teeth on the NES. Countless hours spent in Hyrule and the Mushroom Kingdom helped him cultivate the skills that are the basis of what he is today: the Chicago metropolitan area's most ruthless Pokémon master. Some would think a bearded man in his 30s would be ashamed to be seen in public wearing a Pikachu hat, but for Aron it is a badge of honor. When he’s not collecting gym badges, Aron likes games such as those from the Final Fantasy, Super Mario Bros., Legend of Zelda, and Ace Attorney series.
