Wii U News Roundup from Nintendo Direct 11.5.2014

With the year coming to a close very soon Nintendo is at it again with yet another Nintendo Direct. While Aron is busy working on the announcements from the 3DS area of things I’m busy with the round up of things on the Wii U side. Now enough babbling on my end and let’s get to all the awesome news that came from todays Nintendo Direct. Let’s start with Mario Kart 8 since everyone has been wanting news on the DLC.

As you know Nintendo announced two DLC’s coming to Mario Kart 8 with the first DLC coming out this month. When I say this month I mean November 13th so if you’ve yet to get the DLC ordered you better get going. During the Nintendo Direct we got to see all the tracks and vehicles that will be featured in DLC 1. Since we already know the characters there is no need to provide the list, but if you missed out on the video featuring it all you can view it below.

Next up we have information on the most wanted Amiibo’s coming to Wii U. This news comes direct from Nintendo of America on how they’ll be used. As we know Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be one of many games that will be compatible with the figures, but today it was announced that games such as Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors in 2014 and games such as Mario Party 10, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker along with more in 2015 will get features with the Amiibo figures. If you’ve yet to pre-order they come out on the 21st of this month. (Not including what’s coming out in Decemeber.) See the trailer below for how they’ll work within Mario Kart 8.

Other games featured with in the Nintedo Direct have been provide below along with a trailer that was shown during the live stream. Personally I can’t wait for Xenoblade or the Kirby game.

  • Splatoon: The four-on-four online multiplayer shooter also features a single-player mode, which pits a player’s squid-like Inkling character against an army of octopi equipped with an arsenal of ink weaponry. Splatoon will launch exclusively for Wii U in the second quarter of 2015.

  • Xenoblade Chronicles X: In this new RPG from Monolith Soft, players embark on an epic quest in a new world. Using the city of New Los Angeles as a home base, players will embark on missions, collect items and take on requests from residents. Xenoblade Chronicles X – which features a bigger world than Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii – is scheduled to launch exclusively for Wii U in 2015.
  • Kirby and the Rainbow Curse: The newest game in the charming Kirby series finds the lovable pink puffball journeying through a world made of clay. Players guide Kirby along a rainbow line drawn on the Wii U GamePad controller’s touch screen. A new four-player multiplayer mode lets one player play as Kirby and focus on drawing rainbow lines on the GamePad, while the others control a trio of Waddle Dee characters that can collect items or carry Kirby around. Kirby and the Rainbow Curse launches for Wii U in February 2015.
  • Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker: A new trailer for the game debuted during the Nintendo Direct and showed snippets of some of the 70+ levels players will encounter. The game also features different challenges that, once completed, will reveal additional content in the game. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker launches for Wii U on Dec. 5.
