World Premiere of the First Captain America: Civil War Trailer

The first trailer for Marvel’s newest movie, Captain America: Civil War, just premiered online.

It tells the story of how Captain America and Iron Man’s difference in ideals drives a wall between the Avengers and forces various team members to take sides. The government says some people think superheroes are, in fact heroes, while others believe them to be vigilantes. The world no longer wants to tolerate people who have incredible powers with no supervision. In other words, they can’t go around destroying New York City again even if they were just trying to stop evil monsters from taking over the world. Rules and restrictions need to be put into place.

From the clips we were given, we know that Iron Man seems to want to be the more law-abiding one this time, saying, “If we can’t accept limitations, we’re not better than the bad guys.” On the flip side, Captain America is focused on doing whatever it takes to do good, not being completely mindful of the consequences. Following the alignment system, Iron Man has turned Lawful Good while Captain America is Chaotic Good. Both are good…but what version? This movie seems to showcase huge switch in character personality with the catalyst being Captain America’s childhood friend, Bucky Barnes, otherwise known as the Winter Soldier. Towards the end of the trailer, we see Bucky and Cap tag-teaming against Iron Man. 2v1, aww man.

I watched the trailer several times (no, I’m not telling you the exact number). On my second run through, I saw Black Panther pop up. It looks like he will make his first appearance in the movie given and be given at least one fight scene.

This is another Russo brothers film, meaning we’ll be getting something along the lines of the previous Captain American movie (The Winter Soldier). The brothers are also set to direct the two-part Avengers: Infinity War movies. Let’s just say, it’s going to be another awesome 5 years of superhero movies.

What do you think? Are Captain America and Iron Man just going to rough each other up then hug at the end? Or will someone be seriously injured? Even dead? At the end of the trailer, it looked like Bucky was just about ready to tear Iron Man’s reactor out of his chest. Maybe they’re not going to kiss and make up after all.

So, who’s side are you on? #TeamIronMan or #TeamCaptainAmerica?
