X Games To Feature Halo World Championship Later This Month

Teaming up later this month will be ESPN XGames and Xbox to make the extreme sport exposition a little bit geekier. Eight of the top teams from around the world will compete in a tournament between January 28 and January 31st for medals as well as $30,000 in prize money. Segments and highlights will be broadcasted on the X Games telecasts for the first time ever. (Man, I cannot wait to hear the “is this really a sport??” complaining)

Although it is a tournament and sponsored by the Halo World Championship Tour, points or placement changes from the X Games Invitational will not go towards regional final scores. The event can be watched on WatchESPN, twitch.tv/halo, as well as mlg.tv/halo. Head of 343 Industries Bonnie Ross says: “We are committed to the long-term growth of Halo esports through world-class events and the expansion of viewership around the globe…There is no one better than X Games and ESPN to team up with for the Halo World Championship Tour…”

So what do you all think? Should a video game like Halo really be featured on ESPN/at the X Games, or do you think that just because it isn’t purely physical, does not mean the mental acuity is not the same as a sport? Let us know!
