The Division Earns Biggest First Week Ever For New Franchise

Ubisoft’s newest franchise, Tom Clancy’s The Division, has been a huge success since its release on March 8th. It began last week, when it became Ubisoft’s highest selling game in the first 24-hours of release, and now has become the companies best-selling game and the video game industry’s best-selling new game franchise in an opening week.

“The Division taking the top spot in the industry for first week sales of a new franchise is a tremendous achievement. We are very proud of our teams, and humbled by and thankful for the millions of players who are giving us their feedback and support,” said Yves Guillemot, CEO and Co-Founder, Ubisoft. “The Division is the latest example yet of our unique ability to deliver immersive gaming playgrounds that keeps players engaged and that they eagerly share with their friends and community.”

Not only is it breaking sell-through sales records, but player engagement is setting new standards as well. Over the weekend since launch, over 1.2 million peak concurrent users were saving New York City from a devastating terrorist attack, and all players spent well over 100 million hours playing online on Ubisoft’s servers in its first week as well.

For those unfamiliar, The Division puts you in the shoes of a sleeper-agent who is activated when New York City is hit by a pandemic on Black Friday. You can team up with up to three other players to tackle missions and objectives, as well as enter the Dark Zone, which is a PvP free-for-all area that is the epicenter of the pandemic.
