Nintendo Shows off New Amiibo Figures at E3

Nintendo Shows off New Amiibo Figures at E3

Zelda: Breath of the Wild looks incredible, a breakaway from traditional Zelda design and tropes. Nintendo isn’t usually the company to take major risks as this with their biggest IPs, but here we are watching Link find items as he may in a major RPG and climb walls like Nathan Drake does on the regular in Uncharted. Couple this with the magical technology aesthetic and its no wonder people are losing their minds over this game. However, as with any good Nintendo release, the game will have a new line of new Amiibo figures to launch alongside it.

First off, three new Amiibo figures will be available, Archer Link, Rider Link, and a Guardian. The Guardian is a special Amiibo, due to it being the first with flexible parts. It hasn’t been mentioned what these new figures will do in Breath of the Wild, but the Wolf Link Amiibo found in Twilight Princess HD will actually summon the character into the game. Wolf Link will have three hearts and disappear when defeated, unless the player transfers over save data from Twilight Princess HD. This essentially gives Link a Dogmeat equivalent, which will make traveling through the strange new world less lonely.

waluigi amiiboAside from the new Zelda Amiibo, several new Super Mario figures will be adding to the set. These figures launch alongside Mario Party: Star Rush, which launches on November 4th for the 3DS. New characters in the series include a glow-in-the-dark Boo, Daisy, and fan favorite Waluigi. Some of the characters in the Super Smash Bros line will also be getting new poses including: Wario, Rosalina, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. All of the figures can be found at Nintendo’s dedicated webpage.

While the announcement of new Amiibo is awesome for fans of the interactive figures, this also solidifies the assumption that the Nintendo NX console will have Amiibo compatibility. Also, noting the fact that there will be save transfer from Zelda: Twilight Princess HD to Breath of the Wild could mean that the NX will have backwards compatibility for Wii U titles, if not Wii as well. It wouldn’t make sense to include this feature only for those on the older system when the NX and Breath of the Wilds launches, so its a solid assumption to make.

Hopefully more information on the NX will be available soon. Until then, we can’t wait til March 2017 when we can get our hands on this slew of Zelda goodness.
