Phantom Dust Remaster Coming in 2017 for Xbox One and PC

Phantom Dust Remaster Coming in 2017 for Xbox One and PC

When I first started to get into playing on the original Xbox, one of the handful of games on top of Halo and Halo 2 was Phantom Dust. What is the game Phantom Dust for those of you who don’t know? Phantom Dust was a card-based action/strategy game that involved constructing decks, combating other players, and taking on missions to discover why Earth has become a wasteland. Some of you may remember that during E3 2014 the game Phantom Dust was shown off or at least a teaser, which of course the internet and fellow Xbox gamers such as I flipped out. Sad to say friends of mine never heard of the game, but as soon as the trailer started I knew. You can see the news of the announcement here.

However, bad new came from Microsoft since the announcement of the game. Microsoft announced that developer Darkside Games was being closed, and that work on the game would continue under a different team. Since that time no one has heard word on the progress of the game other than it was being worked on. By who?

Well during the YouTube Live broadcast who was hosted by Geoff Keighley, Microsoft’s Shannon Loftis announced Phantom Dust is getting a remaster. What makes this a bit shocking is due to Mircosoft being silent on the subject until now. The game will use assets from the original 2004 Xbox game, remastered and improved in some places. Shannon also said, it will be released some time in 2017 for Xbox One and Windows 10.

While I am happy that the game franchise is coming back, I’m not very happy that it’s a remaster version using assets from the original. Yes, it’ll be updated quite a bit, but the Phantom Dust fan in me is a little angry that it’s not the remake that was announced in 2014.
