Windows 10 Anniversary Brings Music to Xbox One

On August 2, Windows 10 will receive an Anniversary update which will bring a multitude of gaming features. With it will come the Xbox Play Anywhere feature that Phil Spencer talked about during Xbox’s press conference this year.

The Windows 10 anniversary update brings the Xbox Play Anywhere feature to Windows 10 PCs. The Xbox Play Anywhere feature will allow Xbox players to play any Microsoft Studios game on both PC and Xbox while sharing saves and achievements.  The Xbox Play Anywhere feature will eliminate the possibility to earn double the achievement score for some titles. Joining the Xbox Play Anywhere program will start a set of  security updates including an improvement to Windows Defender.

Windows Ink will allow touch screen computers to jot things down quickly on the screen. Cortana will be more productive when searching while being able to suggest new titles based off of previous searches and game preference. With this update comes the end of the free time period to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. With the Windows 10 update comes the return of background music to Xbox consoles; it has been almost three years since the release of the Xbox one, meaning we have been without background music for almost three years. The update will also enable Language Region Independence on Xbox One, meaning you’ll be able to select what language your system uses separately from where you say you live.

Microsoft released a statement saying, “We’d like to say a special thank you to each of you who have upgraded to Windows 10. With over 350 million devices now running Windows 10, customer satisfaction is higher than any previous version of Windows and customer engagement is also incredible with more than 135 billion hours of use on Windows 10 since launch. We’re pleased that so many of you are being more productive and having more fun with Windows 10. Your feedback has been a key input into the design of the Anniversary Update.”

“To celebrate, we’d like to make it easy for everyone to enjoy the great new features in the Anniversary Update. Our free Windows 10 upgrade offer is available until July 29, and we’re also excited to share a few additional special offers. Students can save $300 when they purchase an Xbox One and Surface at Microsoft Stores, or get a free TV when they purchase a Dell PC over $699*. Plus, consumers can get $150 off select HP devices or $100 off select ASUS and Samsung devices.”

Will past Microsoft Studios games become available through the Xbox Play Anywhere feature? Even if past Microsoft Studios titles will not be available through the Xbox Play Anywhere program then there will not be a very long wait until Gears of War 4, Sea of Thieves, Scalebound, and Forza Horizon 3 become available.
