Rock Band 4 DLC For the Week of 8/23/2016

What would music be if it wasn’t for controversies? No, I am not announcing a Janet Jackson Nip-slip DLC package. (However, Harmonix, that is a free idea.) This week we get two new songs, and it is of everyone’s favorite genre: Pop. BUT DOUG THIS ISN’T POP BAND! Yep, I know, but let’s look at it

This week we are getting a mix of Pop genres, with Nicki Minaj and Jason Mraz. Up first is Starships from Nicki’s album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. This upbeat Pop hit from 2012 will be sure to liven up a party. Second, we get Jason Mraz’s laid back groove “I’m yours.” High energy? No. But this is sure to be a major singalong song.

Two songs. How can there be controversy Doug? Well. If you take a gander at the trailer video below, you can glance at the like/dislike meter. Right now it is 64 likes to 165 dislikes. WHOA. Apparently people do not like Nicki. If you read through the comments, you get a ton of “WHY THIS GARBAGE INSTEAD OF INSERT OBSCURE BAND THAT I LIKE HERE.” So this brings me to the topic of how dare they put a party song in a party game. Who do they think they are? The nerve. In all honesty, this happens every time a pop song gets released. People moan and complain about the songs, then they sell well.

You would think people would understand that almost a year after release, Harmonix is still an Indie Developer. They need to bring money in somehow to pay for your crappy rock bands to be in it. So the easiest way is to release a pop song that radio listeners will look at and go “Hey, I know that song and like it.” So they buy it. And maybe their friend buys it. Then maybe their daughter gets introduced to the game because she hears dad playing Nicki Minaj. Who knows. It is accessibility. It is good for the longevity of a series. While Rock Band is still chugging along, Guitar Hero crashed a while back. That is what happens when you take accessibility out of your game. I digress.

If you want either of these tracks, they are available today for $1.99 each.

Doug bashes his fists against the keyboard and eventually a piece of video is made, sometimes it is even funny. Some of his gaming accomplishments are: completing a living Pokedex on the Pokebank, 1000 pointing BCFX: Black College Football: The X-perience: the Doug Williams Edition, and only crying five times during the Kingdom Hearts series.
