Rockers, we are less than a month away from the release of Battlefield 1 on PC, PS4, and Xbox. Today, Battlefield 1 developer Lars Gustavsson may have just revealed the future of the Battlefield franchise and it looks like we may be seeing Battlefield Bad Company 3 sooner than we expected.
Over the last five years, the shooter genre has become a futuristic warzone that relies on jetpacks, thermal scopes, and weapons that destroys the laws of modern-day physics. With the release of Battlefield 1, come the return of tank and cavalry warfare that rely on nature aim rather than aim assisted by advanced technology. After the largest EA beta, Battlefield 1 looks like it may dethrone the Colossal giant Call of Duty and become the number one selling shooter in 2016.
In 2010, arguably one of the best Battlefield games was released; it has been six long years since the foul-mouthed installment and today we learned that Dice has had the Bad Company franchise in their backlog of titles.
During an interview with Resero, DICE’s Lars Gustavsson said, “Yeah, the question of Bad Company, and will the boys return; it’s always in the back of our heads, and I think just like Battlefield 1 is a work of passion and the way that I think that we are extremely proud of all the Battlefield games we have done,” Gustavsson said. “Battlefield 4 is a dream for me as a game maker and how we handled modern warfare. But going back to Battlefield 1 and the Great War, it has been a work of passion in how we can capture it in a different way. But in the back of our heads, just the same, the question of Bad Company 3 and will we do it… who knows? Maybe in the future, it’s something we miss. So maybe someday.”
In recent years, Dice has seemed to have lost their way with the franchise they manage between Battlefield Hardline and Star Wars Battlefront, but Dice’s work with Battlefield 1 hints that Dice may be taking the proper steps to reestablishing themselves as a dominant video game company. Although there currently is no plan by Dice to release Battlefield Bad Company 3 in near future, it is still in the minds of Dice employees.
Battlefield 1 is set to release on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on October 21, 2016. Would it have been better for EA to have released Battlefield Bad Company 3 over Battlefield 1? We will just have to find out next month when Battlefield 1 releases. Do you think that EA should develop Battlefield Bad Company 3 or should they work on a new potential installment to the franchise?
