Is Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Overstepping Boundaries?

When is enough for "fluff?"

Is Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Overstepping Boundaries?

Being my favorite game series, I have always looked forward to playing each new title. For each title is a piece of the puzzle that gets more and more convoluted, but more fleshed out. It is a fascinating conundrum. I was concerned for Kingdom Hearts 3 since I only have an Xbox One, but then they announced it for both consoles, so mission accomplished, right? No. Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue was announced as a PlayStation 4 exclusive with new content. So what do I do now? Do I just buy a PlayStation 4 to enjoy it or do I just wait it out? Well, I think I am going to have to wait it out.

2.8 will have three stories in it; this has been known for a while: Dream Drop Distance HD, Unchained X Back Cover (as a film) and 0.2 Birth By Sleep: A Fragmentary Passage. This last portion is about Aqua in the realm of darkness, so it is almost just a proof of concept with the new fighting style and graphics. It has been said that it will last about the length of a standard world in Kingdom Hearts 3, so possibly a couple hours long. Add this with Back Cover (about an hour long) and you are getting right around five hours of new content. That’s it.

As beautiful as 0.2 is, is it honestly worth the price tag?

As beautiful as 0.2 is, is it honestly worth the price tag?

While yes, I agree we are getting the remastered Dream Drop Distance with it, which is between 12 and 25 hours long depending on your playstyle, that is not that much content for a full priced game, especially since it is an 90/10 split on new content. This morning it was announced that 2.8 will be getting a free pre-order upgrade to the collector’s edition. What is in said collector’s edition? For most, sadness and disappointment. It is a Disney trading pin, that says Kingdom Hearts 2.8 and it has King Mickey and Sora on it. While yes, it is a lovely pin, Square Enix is not selling this title very well to people on the fence. So in one sense, yes, I am sad that I am not able to play it, but in the other, would I really want to spend $60 to get five-ish new hours of content?

What do you all think? Is this ridiculous to be upset about, or is this an example of remastered titles over stepping their boundaries? Either way, this seems like the last stop before we get to Kingdom Hearts 3. Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is due out January 24th, 2017. So, all aboard the hype train?

Doug bashes his fists against the keyboard and eventually a piece of video is made, sometimes it is even funny. Some of his gaming accomplishments are: completing a living Pokedex on the Pokebank, 1000 pointing BCFX: Black College Football: The X-perience: the Doug Williams Edition, and only crying five times during the Kingdom Hearts series.

Uh, well, since the franchise is more associated with PlayStation than not, I don’t even understand why you would be bothered. Consider yourself fortunate that KH 3 is gonna be on Xbox, at all.

That was simply one rambling point that I had. I am glad that I will be able to play it on my Xbox One, possibly. I know there have been some talks that it wouldn’t be. If it doesn’t, boo hoo, I will get over it and purchase a PlayStation4. The biggest complaint that I was bringing up is the fact that people who purchase this will be charged for a full price game, as opposed to the $35 for 1.5 and 2.5, just because of 5 hours of “new” content.

It’s built with a completely new engine, as well, isn’t it? Isn’t it using the same engine as that of KH3? So you’re getting two full games, fully remade, PLUS new content, and you want it at less than most single-game remasters?

You should see n4g. There’s actually a guy claiming that since Walt Disney himself did almost no business outside the west, that it’s summarily bizarre that games feature characters made under his name wouldn’t be on a console made in the west.

Some people on N4G are just as anywhere on the internet, same as 4chan or reddit, with handfuls of anti-social halfwits with arrogant thoughts where they think their perception is valid enough to be able to procreate a rational opinion. Humans that are ignorant to the problem that every Thought is equal to an Opinion, which is equal to a Truth, which is equal to Facts – are growing more prominent, everywhere really. “I haz thoughts suh imma convey and pretend its a legit opinion! hurrr”
