Viz Announces Premiere Event for Sailor Moon R: The Movie

With a wider release planned for later in January, anime publisher Viz Media has today announced a premiere event for its upcoming release of Sailor Moon R: The Movie, which will give fans in Los Angeles plenty to look forward to.

In Sailor Moon R: The Movie, Mamoru gives a single rose, as thanks, to a boy who helped him recover from the crash that claimed his parents. That lonely boy has since been searching the galaxy for a flower worthy of the gesture from long ago, and the flower he finds, though beautiful, has a dark side, and possesses the power to take over planets. It falls to Sailor Moon and the rest of the Sailor Guardians to stop the impending destruction the plant can cause, and save Mamoru. A trailer for the film can be found on YouTube.

The red carpet premiere event is scheduled for Jan. 13, 2017 at the theater at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, CA, with tickets on sale now at the Ace Hotel website for $29.99 each. The event will kick off at 6pm, with doors opening at 7pm, and the movie starting at 8pm.

During the event, fans can expect an exclusive interview with the English cast as well as the North American theatrical debut of the Sailor Moon short, Make Up! Sailor Guardians. Additionally, attendees will receive an exclusive free gift, a Sailor Moon character board, and have the opportunity to purchase Sailor Moon merchandise at the show, while the hotel bar will serve a variety of Sailor Moon-themed cocktails.

The film will make its debut in more than 300 theaters across the US, distributed by Eleven Arts, in late January. More details about the participating locations, and ticket information, will be made available through Eleven Arts’ site soon.

Both the classic Sailor Moon and new Sailor Moon Crystal anime series are published by Viz Media.
