Yooka-Laylee Release Date and Wii U Cancellation

Yooka-Laylee Release Date and Wii U Cancellation

On December 13th, developer Playtonic Games released their trailer for the new open-world platformer Yooka-Laylee. In this trailer, we get a glimpse at the Capital Cashino world and some of the gameplay elements that will be in this new release. At the end of the trailer it was then revealed that Yooka-Laylee will be launched on April 11th, 2017. The game will be available for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms and is available for pre-order now at £34.99 / $39.99 / €39.99 in both digital and physical formats.

The pre-order offer of the game includes instant access to the Yooka-Laylee Toybox. This pre-game feature is a sandbox experience that gives players the ability to sample the platform’s mechanics and gameplay elements that are set to later appear in the full version of the game.

Now some of you might be wondering where the Wii U version of the game is and why it’s not up for pre-order since it was a part of the Kickstarter. Unfortunately, one of the big announcements made by Playtonic regarding Yooka-Laylee was that the development of the Wii U version of the game has been canceled. Gavin Price, Studio Director from Playtonic Games stated,

“We’re sad to announce that despite our best efforts and exploring every possible avenue, we have encountered unforseen technical issues that unfortunately mean it will be impossible for us to release Yooka-Laylee on Wii U as initially planned.”

This news comes as a bummer to many fans looking pick up the game on the Wii U, but thankfully those who donated to the Kickstarter campaign for the Wii U version now have the option to pick up another version of the game. This news of the Wii U version’s cancellation was also accompanied by some good news from Playtonic ,“We can however confirm today that we are working very closely with Nintendo to look to bring Yooka-Laylee to the upcoming Nintendo Switch™. We’re thrilled to be able to explore the opportunity and more details will be shared in early 2017.” With that being said, Nintendo fans have something new to look forward to and hopefully we will be seeing Yooka-Laylee brought to the Nintendo Switch in the near future.

Be sure to stay tuned for more Yooka-Laylee news, and check out the Capital Cashino world reveal trailer.
