Seven Seas Entertainment Finishes with Five More Manga Announcements

To round out its week-long announcements of new manga licenses, publisher Seven Seas Entertainment today unveiled its final batch of titles, which includes plenty for fans to look forward to throughout late 2017.

Starting things off, the publisher revealed Yumi Unita’s Sleeping Beauty. Unita is the creator of the series Bunny Drop, and her Sleeping Beauty is a modern fairy tale, which follows Yaneko, a high school girl that loves to sleep. She enjoys it so much, that it can be near impossible to wake her up, until Nerim, a sleep spirit, chooses Yaneko to be his assistant, and she is then tasked with accompanying the spirit through his daily routine, bringing a comfortable sleep to people and animals. What his true motive is however, behind choosing her, is a mystery.

The publisher will release Sleeping Beauty, as single volume editions, with the first slated for Nov. 21, 2017.

The next title unveiled, is the classic manga series, Dragon Half, from Ryusuke Mita. A slap-stick, fantasy adventure series, Dragon Half follows a young girl named Mink, who falls for Dick Saucer (yes, you read that right), an idol, and a dragon slayer. The problem for Mink, is that she is half dragon. So, to gain a potion that will make her fully human, Mink and her friends embark on a quest to destroy the Demon Lord Azetodeth.

Seven Seas Entertainment will release the series, as three deluxe omnibus editions, collecting all seven of the original volumes, including bonus material and the Dragon Half Z epilogue story. Each volume will contain over 350 pages, more than twenty in full-color, and wraparound silver foil covers. The first volume on the omnibus editions, will be released on Dec. 26, 2017.

Seven Seas also revealed Cutie Honey a Go Go!, from Hideaki Anno and Shinpei Itou, featuring one of Go Nagai’s most well-known characters. In the manga, Tokyo is under siege from Panther Claw, a global terrorist organization, and it falls to the beautiful super heroine Cutie Honey, to defeat them. She fails however, and for her own protection, joins forces with Natsuko Aki, a government agent, to pose as a student and teacher at St. Chapel Academy, to stay hidden from Panther Claw.

Cutie Honey a Go Go! will be released in a single volume omnibus edition, with 386-pages, on Sept. 26, 2017.

The next announcement was also for classic fans, as Seven Seas Entertainment revealed Record of Lodoss War: The Grey Witch novel, an iconic fantasy novel written by Ryo Mizuno, and accompanied by illustrations from Yutaka Izubuchi. The story revolves around Parn, a reckless and passionate swordsman, joined by an elf named Deedlit, a dwarf called Ghim, Etoh the priest, a sorcerer named Slayn, and their thief, Woodchuck, who head out on a journey to uncover the source of an evil that is overwhelming Lodoss.

The Record of Lodoss War: The Grey Witch – Gold Edition will be released on Oct. 31, 2017. It will see the novel published in English, in a large trim hardcover, gold embossed edition.

For their final announcement of the week, Seven Seas Entertainment unveiled Spirit Circle, from Satoshi Mizukami, the creator of another of the publisher’s releases, Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer. Spirit Circle follows Fuuta Okeya, a 14-year-old boy, with the ability to see ghosts, who has a crush on Kouko Ishigami, the new transfer student, although she wants nothing to do with him. When Kouko sees, the birthmark hidden under Fuuta’s bandage, things get even worse, as Kouko denounces him as her enemy, saying that the mark is a curse that she placed on him in one of their past lives.

Released as single volume editions, each with multiple full-color pages, Spirit Circle will be making it was to North America, with the first volume available on Oct. 10, 2017.

Yesterday’s announcements, included Madeleine Rosca’s Hollow Fields graphic novel series, in a full-color edition, the Hatsune Miku: Bad∞End∞Night manga series from Hitoshizuku – P × Yama△ and Tsubata Nozaki, and the spin-off manga series, The Testament of Sister New Devil Storm!, from Tetsuto Uesu and Fumihiro Kiso. Wednesday saw the announcement of Devilman G, The Count of Monte Cristo, Captain Harlock: Dimensional Voyage, and plans for illustrated classic literary novel versions of The Secret Garden, Anne of Green Gables, The Princess and the Goblin, A Little Princess, and Pollyanna. Tuesday’s reveals included Unmagical Girl (The Later Daily Life of the Magic Girl), Magical Girl Special Ops Asuka, and Alice & Zouroku. On Monday, the publisher also unveiled Absolute Duo, Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea, and Hatsune Mike Presents: Hachune Miku’s Everyday Vocaloid Paradise.
