Good News Everyone! A New Futurama Game is In The Works!

Futurama mobile game featured

Futurama may be relegated to perpetual reruns on TV, but that doesn’t mean fans aren’t ever going to get new content. Just announced today, TinyCo and Fox Interactive will be bringing Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow to mobile later this year!

While not a lot of details have been announced yet, it has been confirmed that the game features new original content from creator and TinyCo Jam CityExecutive Producer Matt Groening, Executive Producer David X, Cohen, and much of the team behind the beloved TV series. TinyCo is also working with Rough Draft Studios – Futurama’s original animators – to bring the show’s trademark humor, signature visual style, and ensemble comedic adventure to mobile players everywhere.

Although beloved enough on TV to achieve a rare resurrection a few years ago, Futurama has only had two previous video game appearances. 2003’s Futurama: The Video Game is best remembered for the episode’s worth of cinematics that were collected as a bonus episode called Futurama: The Lost Adventure on the direct-to-DVD movie Futurama: The Beast With a Billion Backs. The more recent mobile game Futurama: Game of Drones, meanwhile, was an eminently forgettable Candy Crush clone with a loosely strung-together plot involving Planet Express delivering packages, via drones.

There is, however, a lot of potential here. Cohen had this to say: “”Futurama is back, bigger and better than ever! Or possibly smaller and equally good. But either way, it’s back!”. The team at TinyCo had previously worked with Fox on Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff, and most recently released Marvel Avengers Academy. Given that the people responsible for the best part of the two previous games are on board with this, that’s pretty promising.

The game is expected to be released later in 2017, Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow will be available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and Amazon App store.
