Launch Sales Announced for Nintendo Switch & The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

It goes without saying that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the Nintendo Switch have been flying off the shelves and taking up countless hours of gamers all across the world. How well have they been flying, you ask? Well, Nintendo has an answer for you.

In its first 28 days on sale in North America, NPD Group reports that the Nintendo Switch has sold beyond 906,000 units. Its star title at launch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, has sold 1.3 million copies across the newly released Switch (925,000 units) and the Wii U (460,000 units).

By achieving these numbers, Nintendo states it is one of the fastest-selling consoles of all-time.

Thanks to IGN.com, we have some comparison numbers for you;

  • During its first week on sale, the Wii U sold 400,000 consoles
  • The Wii sold 600,000 in its first eight days
  • The Nintendo 3DS sold 440,000 units in its first week
  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess sold 454,000 copies in its first week

The Nintendo Switch is off to a great start and hopefully it can keep the momentum going.
