Sonic Mania Still on Track for a Summer 2017 Release

Sonic Mania Still on Track for a Summer 2017 Release

Every year, gamers around the world are disheartened when they hear that a much-anticipated title is delayed past an expected release date; tensions only rise higher when said title is delayed a second or third time especially when little information is provided as to why. Earlier today, a site announced that the retro style game Sonic Mania had been delayed until September, however, we have learned that is not the case.

Earlier today, a site called heypoorplay.com reported that Sonic Mania was delayed until September, stating that Amazon had sent out an email saying that the game would not be released until September to all the members who pre-ordered a copy of Sonia Mania. Below is a copy of the supposed email,

“Hello,

We have received new release date information to your pre-ordered video game. The release date for the video game listed below has been changed by the publisher, and we want to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:

“Sonic Mania Playstation 4”

Estimated arrival date: September 04, 2017.

We’ll make every effort to get the delayed items to you as soon as possible.”

At the moment, Amazon is currently still showing a release date of August 31st, 2017 on their website so it would be interesting to see an actual copy of the email that Heypoorplayer.com is quoting. Skeptical of any game delay information, we decided to reach out to Sega for confirmation regarding a potential delay of Sonic Mania. Sega’s correspondent informed us that, “As most recently announced during SXSW, Sonic Mania is scheduled to be released this Summer 2017. We have not released a specific date beyond this timeframe.

At the moment no official release date has been announced by Sega and the Amazon listing is more of a placeholder.

If Sonic Mania does release in September it should still fall within the window that Sega has set with the Summer 2017 release date announcement.

Sonic Mania was created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Sonic franchise and bring Sonic lovers of all ages together to experience the franchise from a new perspective. Will you enjoy playing through past world’s and areas as Sonic, Knuckles, or Tails? All we can do is wait with anticipation and hope that the date comes quickly upon us. Look for more news about Sonic Mania within the coming weeks leading up to E3 2017.
