Viz Media (everyone’s favorite Manga distributor) has acquired the rights to the Splatoon manga, slated to arrive later in 2017. This follows the trend of other Nintendo series making the jump to the manga medium like the Legend of Zelda did years ago.

The press release explained what the comic would be about:

“In the SPLATOON manga series, four Inklings that can switch between human and squid forms get caught up in a Splatoon Turf War that launches them into all-new adventures inspired by the hit Nintendo video game!

Manga creator and artist Sankichi Hinodeya first appeared in a bonus issue of Square Enix’s Gangan Powered magazine with the series Maho Bozu Sankyu (Magical Monk Sankyu). In 2015, Hinodeya created the manga adaptation of SPLATOON, which is currently serialized in Japan in Corocoro Comic Magazine.”

This manga is based on the original Splatoon, but will be definitely used to market Splatoon 2, which is due out on July 21st, 2017. In addition to a Europe and Japan exclusive Green and Pink Splatoon Switch and the recent Nintendo Direct, Splatoon 2 is shaping up to be a great sequel to an already amazing game.

As a hardcore Splatoon fan, I’m excited to see the game in a readable form. So, are you a kid… or a squid?

Splatoon 2 is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch on July 21st. This could be a monumental release, as the game will finally be playable with the twin analog sticks of the Pro Controller. It will be interesting to see how the game is adapted for things like E-Sports and other tournaments, especially given its portability. That original trailer of the Switch could quickly become a reality, with Splatoon teams forming all over the world.
