Battlefront II Gameplay, Post Launch Plan Revealed

Battlefront II Yoda v Maul

Do you love the Star Wars franchise? Did you love the original Star Wars Battlefront games? Did the 2015 Battlefront not quite fill that hole you were hoping it would? Well EA seems to have a game for you. Saturday at EA Play 2017, we got our first look at some Star Wars Battlefront II gameplay, and it did not disappoint. Not only is there a story mode which wasn’t shown, but the multiplayer, which we all know is main reason to play, looks simply incredible.

With Star Wars Battlefront II, we’ve really taken feedback from our players to heart, and you see that in the base game, which has so much more content than the first game – a new authentic single player campaign, epic multiplayer, starfighter battles, and solo or co-op PvE on console – a huge game across all eras of the Star Wars films.  – Matt Webster, Executive Producer

That’s not all Mr. Webster had to say though. According to him, they have a philosophy of keeping fans playing together by having “seasons” that will “add meaningful content and in game events on a regular basis.” You might ask, “Okay, but how much will this cost me?” The answer? Nothing. According to EA, all players will have access to all post launch content absolutely free. Some of the other content that will be added are new locations, characters, vehicles, modes, weapons, and more. You can look for the first free update in December with Star Wars: The Last Jedi inspired content. You can look forward to playable heroes Captain Phasma and Finn, a new planet called Crait, and space map above D’Qar.

The gameplay shown was the all new Naboo: Theed map set in the prequel trilogy era. While that particular trilogy has not garnered a ton of love from fans as far as the movies are concerned, this map looked stunning. We got a chance to see a new game mode called Galactic Assault, some new vehicles including the Naboo N-1 starfighter, and a few of the heroes. It’s clear their concern is fun over canon as heroes seem to cross over eras. Have you ever wanted Darth Maul and Boba Fett to fight alongside each other while they face off against Rey? Here is your chance.

While it’s not yet clear if Battlefront II fixes all of the issues hardcore fans had with its predecessor, what I’ve seen seems incredibly promising. With the added ability to experience all post launch content without having to buy a season pass, this could truly be the sequel fans have been waiting 12 years for.

Star Wars Battlefront II will be available worldwide for PS4, Xbox One, and Origin for PC on November 17, 2017. If you would like to play early, you can do so by getting the Star Wars Battlefront II: Elite Trooper Edition on November 14th, or the Play First Trials on EA and Origin Access on November 9th.

I've been gaming for as long as a can remember. While I'm primarily interested in cinematic story driven games, I do believe the heart of the industry is the indie game. Other than games, I'm passionate about soccer, occasionally stream on Twitch, and I'm in school for Web Development.
