Dragon Ball FighterZ Revealed at E3

Dragon Ball FighterZ Featured

A couple days ago, we got news that Arc System Works, the developers of Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, were working on a Dragon Ball Z game. Well, the footage has been revealed at Microsoft’s E3 press conference and it could be the fighting game fans have always wanted. Dragon Ball FighterZ looks to be a dream come true for fighting game enthusiasts and fans of the anime alike.

Judging by the trailer, we can see that the game runs in a 2D plane, but with gorgeous 3D character models. Shifting camera angles add a ton of punch to the action, capturing each energy blast, transformation, and signature attack perfectly. Running at blazing speeds, Dragon Ball FighterZ looks absolutely insane, capturing the dark lines of the anime and manga perfectly.

We also got to see 3v3 battles in action, adding a bit of chaos to what could be the first truly competitive Dragon Ball Z game. Both BlazBlue and Guilty Gear have extremely passionate fan bases, but moving those technical skills over to the world of Super Saiyans and silly villains adds a whole new layer of excitement. Hopefully Arc System Works spends a lot of time fine-tuning the combat to the point that the highest level players come to it for major tournaments. That would be a first for Dragon Ball Z!

As of now, there is no word on whether this new game will feature characters or locale from Dragon Ball Super (aside from Golden Frieza, who was featured in a movie), Dragon Ball GT, or the original Dragon Ball. All of the characters shown in the trailer are classic Dragon Ball Z staples like Majin Buu, Goku, and Teen Gohan.

Overall, I have never been as excited for a Dragon Ball Z game than I am for this one. Here’s hoping Arc System Works changes how we perceive anime based games. Good luck guys!

Dragon Ball FighterZ is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC in early 2018. More information can be found at the official website.
