Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Coming to PS4

Finally Confirmed for Localisation

Unlike the PSVita, Square Enix seemed to adore the PSP. Granted, it was immensely popular in Japan, even seeping into popular culture with its iconic design. During that golden age of Square Enix portability, a unique fighting game starring many characters from the Final Fantasy legacy was released. Finally, the newest title that has been in Japanese arcades for a while is getting localized as Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

Strange naming aside, Dissidia made a bit of a splash on the PSP with its weird, but satisfying “bravery combat system.” Players choose their favorite Final Fantasy character and duke it out, swapping out moves and leveling up along the way. Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is the first time the series has been on a main console, really showing the graphical fidelity and beauty that has been held back on the portable systems.

New features include a 3v3 match type, a few new characters like Ramza from Final Fantasy Tactics, and fully modeled iconic summon monsters. The game has actually been in Japanese arcades for a while, so many of the games finer details are available around the net, including things like character reveals and system explanations. If I could find a way to order one of these crazy machines, I’d probably look into that.

Honestly, while I didn’t find the combat system as fun as I would have hoped, I had a ton of fun with the PSP titles. Long hours were spent going through the story mode and playing match after match, curled up in a pile of blankets while sipping Dr. Pepper with my step-brother. It’s a celebration of the Final Fantasy brand, which I love dearly. Considering the anniversary this year, it makes sense to make this announcement now.

Hopefully this new PS4 title adds some much needed depth to the battles. I’ll be anxiously awaiting being able to relive those battles with my step-brother, but this time Ramza is stepping into the ring! Also, I was partially right about my Square Enix E3 prediction. Fingers crossed for news about the bigger titles.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT will be a big part of Square Enix’s E3 plans. For more details about this PS4 version, be sure to tune into the panel with Ichiro Hazama, Director Takeo Kujiraoka, Justin Wong of Echo Fox and K-Brad at the E3 Coliseum on Tuesday June 13th at 3:15 p.m. (Pacific). The E3 Coliseum will be streamed on Twitch and YouTube.

Check out the official website for even more details.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is set for an early 2018 release on PS4.
