Use Your GameStop Trades Towards Amazon Cash

Gamestop will allow customers to use their trade in credit towards Amazon Cash.  The program is starting on June 7th.

In a weird turn of events, customers can use their trades towards Amazon cash. The initiative is hoping to increase trades at GameStop stores.  For those of you, who do not know,  Gamestop employees are tracked on their Trade in amounts, Pre-Orders, and the companies Power Up Rewards Program, in order to maintain employment and hours.

The email goes as follows,

Starting in June, Amazon shoppers will be able to apply their Gamestop trade credit and cash towards their Amazon account! This exciting addition to our trade program is intended to drive incremental trades into stores, helping your team meet trade and inventory goals.

On 6/7, The Gamestop logo will appear on Amazon’s website to promote this program. Interested shoppers will request a barcode on amazon.com/cash that can be used in Gamestop stores like an Amazon POSA card.

The added store traffic driven by this program is sure to increase digital sales and the potential for guests to purchase other products in your store. How will your team make the most out of this fantastic new partnership?

This sounds like a fantastic opportunity indeed, but a question arises will this backfire? Currently, new games go on sale more often on Amazon, and the site offers free shipping. GameStop’s own website does not offer free shipping on its products, and sales are not as frequent.  Gamestop is the biggest video game retailer and Amazon is the largest online retailer, hopefully, some good will come out of this and it won’t be a wasted effort on Gamestop’s part. But the good news is: now I’m able to trade in my copy of Mafia III and get the $0.99 book of the day deals.  You can see the email for yourself here.
