The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s First DLC is Now Available!

If you own the Season Pass for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the Nintendo Switch, you now have access to the first DLC pack; The Master Trials! All you have to do, if it hasn’t updated automatically, is to click on the – or + button on your Joy-Cons while selecting Breath of the Wild, and choose Software Update and it should download in no time at all!

Once the download is complete and you open The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the main menu will have changed ever so slightly. You now have the ability to start in Hard Mode, which has its own separate Save and Auto-Save files. Be prepared, however, because early reports are that this is no small bump in difficulty.

In addition, once you start your game, you will be notified of new EX quests which will lead you to many of the new items in this DLC, such as Majora’s Mask, The Korok Mask, The Travel Medallion, and titular Master Trials. For those unfamiliar, The Master Trials have you facing enemies, without any of your gear equipped and only using what you find, across 45 rooms to unlock the true potential of The Master Sword. Also included in this DLC is the Hero’s Path Mode. This allows you to see, indicated by a green line, where you’ve been over the past 200 hours of gameplay. You can move forward and back through time, and it is a very welcome and cool addition.

If you haven’t purchased the Season Pass, you can do so on the Nintendo e-Shop for $19.99. This will also gain you access to the second DLC Pack; The Champions’ Ballad, that will be a much more story focused and meatier offering, and will be released later this year.
