Doomfist is Finally Coming to Overwatch

After months of waiting, the legendary gauntlet wearing villain Doomfist is joining the fight. Overwatch‘s new character has been teased since before the release of Overwatch. Overwatch‘s new character is now available to play on Blizzard’s public test region. How will the new character shake things up and what hero will be able to stop the villain.

Akande Ogundimu aka Doomfist is a cybernetically enhanced character who uses his strength to take what he desires through offensive tactics. Doomfist was first mentioned in Overwatch‘s 2014 cinematic trailer when a child visiting an Overwatch museum sees the legendary villain’s gauntlet showcased behind glass. One of the key adversaries of the agents of Overwatch can use his hand cannon gauntlet to take down his opponents. With his seismic slam, Doomfist leaps forward and smashes his opponents towards him. This ability should help players force picks and secure objectives.

According to Overwatch‘s lore, Doomfist is the leader of dastardly characters like Reaper and Widowmaker. On Tuesday, Blizzard revealed to the world that there had been a prison break at the maximum security facility where he had been incarcerated. For months, Blizzard has been teasing the release of the highly anticipated character and finally, players can smash their enemies into pieces.

After Blizzard’s announcement that Doomfist would be finally coming to Overwatch,  a Blizzard employee had this to say about their new character,

“In addition to dealing ranged damage with his Hand Cannon, Doomfist can slam the ground, knock enemies into the air and off-balance, or charge into the fray with his Rocket Punch. When facing a tightly packed group, Doomfist leaps out of view, then crashes down to earth with a spectacular Meteor Strike.”

Although Doomfist is finally coming to Overwatch, he will sadly not be voiced by Terry Crews much to the communities disappointment; however, he will be voiced by veteran voice actor Sahr Ngaujah. Gamers who also play League of Legends might be able to compare Overwatch‘s new character to building smashing champion VI. What other comparisons can you guys make? How do you think he will alter the competitive scene or change the gameplay of overwatch?
