Retro City Rampage DX Hits Switch

Perfect Way to Prepare for Shakedown Hawaii

The Switch is quickly becoming one of my favorite ways to enjoy retro-inspired games, especially if Neo-Geo games are a favorite. Switch players may have just received another reason to load up the E-Shop, as Retro City Rampage DX is now available.

Imagine if the the first Grand Theft Auto had stayed in the pixelated art style instead of moving on to huge 3D cities, Sasquatch mysteries, and doing crazy stunts that shouldn’t be possible, but yet they are and make for a production killing two hours of time wasted. Retro City Rampage has been in the indie players’ mindset since 2012, where it was well-received and ported to just about every system. Development team, Vblank Entertainment Inc, clearly have a love for all things retro and that shows in the game and the various ways they offer it online.

Not going to lie, I’m pretty bummed that I missed out on their DOS and Vita releases.

The version coming to Switch is the enhanced version, meaning the game has just gotten better over time. Since there still are not a lot of offerings on the Switch (hell I still play the Vita way more, but that could just be me) this a great chance to try out an indie that may have been missed on another console. Plus, playing Retro City Rampage DX on Switch is a great way to get ready for the game’s sequel, Shakedown Hawaii, which is coming to Switch as well.

Shakedown Hawaii definitely looks interesting, both from an action perspective and by the way it seems to be handling capitalism. Being as I just moved to a tourist driven economy, I can guarantee that exploiting them in this game will relieve some stress from time to time.

In both cases, it looks like fans of classic mayhem will have plenty to keep them busy. Personally, I can’t wait to see where Vblank goes from here. I would love to see their take on the point-and-click genre, maybe even a traditional RPG. Either way, both of these games are on Switch and I definitely need more reasons to carry it around.
