Shovel Knight: King of Cards Arriving In Early 2018

During Nintendo’s Nindies Summer Showcase earlier today, Yacht Club Games revealed the final campaign for 2014’s Shovel Knight, Shovel Knight: King of Cards. This new expansion will feature four new worlds and 30 courses and looks to tell the backstory of how King Knight, with his signature bash attack and spinning strike, ascended the throne. In addition, there will be a new mode that features card battles featuring enemies and characters from the game.

The King Knight campaign continues the incredible support that Yacht Club Games has shown for Shovel Knight. These bonus campaigns were made possible by stretch goals in their successful Kickstarter that raised $311,502 back in 2013. The first expansion was Plague of Shadow that featured Plague Knight and was a remix of the main campaign and had you using new abilities like throwing bombs. The second expansion, and my personal favorite of all the campaigns, was Specter of Torment featuring Specter Knight. Plague Knight has great mobility options and offered a fresh look and new perspective of the Shovel Knight world.

On the Nintendo Switch, Shovel Knight arrived as a standalone title, as well as with Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, which included the aforementioned expansions, and will receive King of Cards when it arrives early next year. For those without a Nintendo Switch or whom have purchased Shovel Knight on another platform, the game will also arrive in 2018 for the price of $9.99 for those who don’t own the Treasure Trove version, in which it will arrive as a free update.
