Gearbox Teases More Information On Borderlands 3

At PAX West this past weekend, Gearbox held their usual panel. In the presentation, CEO Randy Pitchford shed some more light on the unannounced-yet-pretty-much-announced Borderlands 3. Fans like myself have been aching to get an announcement on the new sequel, but Gearbox has stayed pretty quiet about it, with the exception of little hints here and there. I attended the PAX East Panel this past March, and Pitchford did mention Borderlands 3 (well he didn’t actually say that name) and gave us an early look at what it could potentially look like with their new engine.

At PAX West, Pitchford went on record to say that about 90% of Gearbox’s team is working on the game “most of you guys want us to be working on.” We are all well aware that Gearbox has been working on other projects since Battleborn, but details have always been scarce. In early August this year, Gearbox announced they working on a new first-person shooter that ““combines the action of fast-paced 1v1 first-person combat with the metagame strategy of a collectible card game.” The working title of this project is currently Project 1v1.

Even with those other projects, everyone knows Borderlands is Gearbox’s crown jewel, and we have no doubt a new Borderlands sequel is what Pitchford has been hinting at. We have still no official announcement, but there are potential events that the sequel could be announced at. The Game Awards is a strong candidate for me, but we also the Playstation Experience in the near future as well.

According to Dualshockers, Pitchford had once stated that “a product does not exist until it’s announced.” Since Gearbox is also a publishing company, that statement does hold water. So now all we can do is hope to get a Borderlands 3 announcement in the near future. For the time being, it would be nice if Telltale would begin to unveil plans about a Tales From The Borderlands Season 2. This would keep us occupied while we patiently wait for a brand new sequel into this fascinating universe. Unfortunately, Telltale has made no indications of a second installment.

He just graduated from Western Illinois University where all he did was write. On his free time he enjoys going out to Chicago and enjoying the company of his friends. Also, Go Cubs!!! His favorite game is Borderlands 2, favorite movie is The Social Network, and his favorite TV show is Dexter. Yes, he has very diverse taste.
