Gecco Unleashes Ultraman with a New Pre-Painted Model Kit

Earlier this week, collectible manufacturer Gecco Corp. unveiled a new pre-painted model kit for one of Japan’s most iconic science fiction superheroes, Ultraman, available in the early part of next year.

Ultraman has been around for decades, having made his debut on Japanese television in 1966, spawning tons of additional series and appearances in a variety of other media; inspiring generations of kids to pose like a superhero. The story of each series often saw an alien creature making its way to Earth, finding a human host and becoming Ultraman, then fighting alongside one another in order to prevent invasion from various menacing alien creatures.

This new pre-painted model kit stands 28.5 cm high (a little under 11.5 inches) and is made from polystone. Although it is called a model kit, it doesn’t consist of many pieces and with the painting already done it should be easy to assemble, as you can tell from the image below. It is sculpted by Erick Sosa, with paint by Kenji Ando, featuring Sosa’s own unique style for the classic character. The model features Ultraman in metallic paint finish, standing on a base with wrecked buildings for added drama in your display.

The Ultraman model kit will have a hefty price tag, at JPY36,800 (roughly $326). It is expected to be available in February of 2018.

An updated version of the classic series was recently adapted in to a manga by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi. The series is currently published by Viz Media.
