Release Date Announced For DOOM On Nintendo Switch

Bethesda has announced the release date for a game some thought would never grace the Nintendo Switch, DOOM. Yes, on November 10th, 2017, fans of this long running franchise will be able to get their hands on the most recent, critically acclaimed entry. Originally released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in May of 2016, DOOM is a reboot of sorts for the series and is the first game launched since DOOM 3 arrived in 2004.

This newest DOOM returns to the fast paced roots of the original two games, as opposed to the survival horror feel of DOOM 3.The player is still tasked with battling enemies straight from Hell, but lucky for you, there are plenty of weapons, upgrades and “glory kills” to turn you into an unstoppable force of nature. DOOM also features an online mutliplayer component and a level editor (Which won’t be headed to the Nintendo Switch) called “SnapMap”.

DOOM was originally revealed as DOOM 4 in 2008, but after id Software had been testing different builds and designs, they ended up restarting the project in 2011 and it was renamed to DOOM in 2014. Those who pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order had a chance to test out the new DOOM first and see what id had been up to for all these years.

In addition to announcing the release date, id Software has released a developer interview video that goes in greater detail what you can expect from DOOM on the Nintendo Switch. Creative Director Hugo Martin and Executive Producer Marty Stratton talk about the Switch and how excited they are for gamers to experience the single-player campaign (with all difficulty modes), Arcade Mode, and the entire multiplayer suite with all previously released DLC content. They also talk about working with developer of the Switch port, Panic Button, to ensure it feels as close as possible to the other versions of the game.
