Aniplex of America has announced the acquisition of PERSONA5 the Animation, the highly-anticipated anime adaptation of the incredibly popular JRPG series by ATLUS. In conjunction with the announcement, the Aniplex of America YouTube page now features an English subtitled trailer of what fans can expect this spring.

Following the successful release of the anime OVA PERSONA5: the Animation – THE DAYBREAKERS-, which coincided with the release of the Persona 5 game, fans are now getting a full length TV series detailing the adventures of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. Key creators from the original game have reunited for the series, including sound composer Shoji Meguro, original concept creator Katsura Hashino, and ATLUS’s own Shigenori Soejima for the series’ Original Character Design. Critically acclaimed animation studio A-1 Pictures (Sword Art Online, Blue Exorcist) will produce the series under Director Masashi Ishihama (ERASED, Your lie in April).

Aniplex also released this sequence of three stills from the upcoming show.

Set in modern Tokyo, PERSONA5 the Animation chronicles the adventures of an eclectic team of teenagers who call themselves the “Phantom Thieves of Hearts.” In the world of Persona 5, demons have corrupted the hearts of their victims, causing havoc in the real world. The group works to reform the hearts of the corrupted by stealing the source of their distorted desires, thus explaining the group’s odd choice in names. This new anime adaptation stars the original voice cast from the game, including Jun Fukuyama (DURARARA!!, Blue Exorcist, WAGNARIA!!) as Ren Amamiya, Mamoru Miyano (Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, DURARARA!!) as Ryuji Sakamoto, Nana Mizuki (Blast of Tempest, VALVRAVE the Liberator, WWW.WAGNARIA!!) as Ann Takamaki, Ikue Otani as Morgana, and Tomokazu Sugita (The irregular at magic high school, The Asterisk War, March comes in like a lion), as Yusuke Kitagawa.

PERSONA5 the Animation is scheduled to premiere April 2018. Fans should keep an eye on the official U.S. website for up to the minute updates.
