Red Dead Redemption 2 Delayed Until October

Red Dead Redemption 2 Delayed Until October

Fans of open-world Westerns are going to have to wait a little longer to strap on their six-guns and dispense justice throughout the Old West. Rockstar Studios announced today that Red Dead Redemption II has been delayed, again, until October 26th, 2018.

Rockstar released the following statement on the game’s website:

Dear All,

We are excited to announce that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on October 26th 2018. We apologize to everyone disappointed by this delay. While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish.

We sincerely thank you for your patience and hope that when you get to play the game, you will agree the wait will have been worth it. In the meantime, please check out these screenshots from the game. We look forward to sharing a lot more information with you in the coming weeks.

With thanks,
Rockstar Games

Along with the statement, they released a whole passel of new screenshots.

This isn’t the first delay for Red Dead Redemption 2. Originally announced in October 2016, after an excruciatingly long rumor period, the game originally had a launch date for the second half of 2017. The game was then delayed into the first half of 2018, before today’s announced delay to October. The fact that the October announcement has a hard date seems encouraging, but given Rockstar’s history, nothing is ever a sure thing. At least one thing is certain though, a lot of folks (us at Marooner’s Rock included) are looking forward to playing this.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently slated as a console exclusive title, to be released on Sony’s PlayStation®4 system and Microsoft’s Xbox One family. A fan petition to get the game on Windows has yet to be answered. Given that none of the previous Red Dead games are available on PC, the odds of this one getting a port would seem slim to none, and Slim just saddled up his horse and rode out of town.
