Review: Wipeout In The Zone (Kinect)

There are few things as satisfying to my sense of humor as slapstick comedy. Wipeout is an hour long TV show of slapstick comedy performed by people who really don’t want to be slammed in the face with a giant foam fist, or vaulted into a giant pool after bouncing haphazardly off a giant red bouncy ball. Call me crazy, but I like what I like, and that’s one thing I like. Wipeout In The...[Read More]

Review: Magic: The Gathering 2012 (PSN)

To summarize in one paragraph: playing Magic on a video game console against the computer is akin to playing against the biggest jerk you associate with.

A 24kb Download: Finding DLC On Disc

Downloadable Content (DLC) has been a total game-changer this generation for consoles. From PC-like expansions, to map packs, we’ve seen just about every type of digital good sold either on Xbox Live Marketplace or the PSN Store. Under all the glitter and gold of really great DLC, is a very dark world. Something much worse than the nickel and dime DLC trick (I’m looking at you Guitar Hero an...[Read More]

Silence is Golden – The Silent Protagonist

It may not be something that we all think about often, but looking back over some of gaming’s notable heroes, there have been those whom have been very vocal about their ambitions and those who’ve played it quietly and cool. How does that affect our perceptions of those characters, what impact does it have on the way we perceive the games we play and is one better than the other? Well,...[Read More]

Celebrating 25 Years of Zelda: A Look to the Past

This year marks The Legend of Zelda’s 25th year in the video game industry, a fact that Nintendo made no bones about at E3 this year, putting on a stunning symphonic display to honor its quarter-of-a-century anniversary. While we’re getting a double-dose of Zelda this year thanks to the releases of Ocarina of Time 3DS recently and Skyward Sword some time this holiday season, let’...[Read More]

Review: Half-Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax (XBLA)

Half-Minute Hero began life essentially as freeware known as 30-Second Hero originally developed by UUE. A unique take on the Japanese Role Playing Game (JRPG) formula, players had 30 seconds to beat an evil wizard and save the world from certain destruction. In 2009, the game would be adopted by Marvelous Entertainment where they would make the move from a standalone 1 MB game and add 5 other dif...[Read More]

2011 Xbox Live Summer of Arcade

It’s that time of year again, and we find ourselves on the cusp of yet another Xbox Live Summer of Arcade. Last year saw some fantastic games that might be hard to top, from the award-winning Limbo to the wonderfully entertaining Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. We were lucky enough to get our hands on one of the upcoming Summer of Arcade games last month in the form of Ubisoft’s ...[Read More]

New Personalized News Feed Goes Live at Raptr

Raptr has already made great strides in bringing gamers together on this little thing we like to call “The Internets” with their game tracking social network. Now, they’ve taken equal parts Reddit and Facebook to create a personalized news feed that tracks submitted stories and displays those that are relevant to your interests. The new feature has gone into live open beta.

E3 2011: Nano Assault

This year being my first at E3, I sought to find a definition for the experience. After some thought, I realize it’s about the discovery of gems. Those games you weren’t expecting to see but leave a mark long after the expo doors close. For me, this is one of those games. Majesco’s Nano Assault was, surprisingly, among my favorite games of E3.

E3 2011: Razer

This years’ offering at E3 by Razer contained a little of their current offerings with a little of some interesting new devices. I’ll be highlighting their new products, including new mice, keyboards, headsets and even discuss the Switchblade project, which holds much promise. Fans of the Portal or Star Wars franchises will be catered to quite nicely with the peripherals on offer.

Review: Mortal Kombat Season Pass / Skarlet DLC (360)

Looks like DLC passes might be the wave of the future. First Rockstar’s L.A. Noire, now Warner Bros. Mortal Kombat (you can read my review on the game here) is using this business model to sell DLC. The way it works is you buy the pass for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15 Bucks), and it gives you future DLC at a discounted rate. Without the pass, Skarlet, Rain, Kenshi, and a yet to be announced kombatan...[Read More]

E3 2011: Sonic Generations

Last month I was privileged enough to get my hands on the Green Hill Zone remake in Sonic Generations, both in Classic mode and Modern mode. Everything I had been hoping to see in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, but was ultimately not provided in that abysmal title, was now in my hands with Sonic Generations. The sense of wonder and enjoyment that I have long been missing from Sonic games is set ...[Read More]
