AntStream Arcade Premium (Xbox Series X) Review

At the tail end of 2022, I had the privilege to review Atari 50, which was quite possibly the best compilation to date. While game compilations are something that has been around for decades, subscription services are the industry’s newest way to drip-feed content to gamers. Services like Xbox’s Game Pass and Sony’s PlayStation Plus Premium, have been successful in offering large catalogs of...[Read More]

Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium Releasing This Summer

Back in 2021, Capcom released Capcom Arcade Stadium. This unique compilation gave players the option to purchase arcade classics a-la-carte and display them in a 3D-rendered arcade. Capcom just revealed Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium, which features 32 different Capcom arcade classics!

Cruis’n Blast – Races onto Nintendo Switch This Fall

The Cruis’n franchise has always had close ties with Nintendo. This dates back to the original 1994 title, Cruis’n USA, which released on N64 2 years later. This can be thanked to what Nintendo had coined “Project Reality”. Somewhere down the line, ownership of Cruis’n transferred over from Midway to Nintendo. The latest entry in the series, which was developed by Raw...[Read More]

Antonball Deluxe (Steam) Review

Many gamers agree that the 70s and 80s were the golden age of gaming. The arcade industry was booming. This caused more people’s exposure to the concept of video games. Many classics like Breakout, Pac-Man, and Mario Bros. became international icons of the era. These old-school arcade games all have a very distinguished feel. This is likely due to fundamentally being built in a way that indu...[Read More]

Button City Interview – Cute Gaming Animals Preventing Greed

The Albuquerque based developer Subliminal is getting ready to release its adorable, narrative adventure Button City. The story follows the fox Fennel and their buddies as they try to save their local arcade from being shut down by the greedy cat Peppermint Pepperbottom. During that, they (and the player) will also find some time to play some goofy arcade games. Since Button City caught our eye, w...[Read More]

Streets of Rage 4 (PS4) Review

Some people grew up on Double Dragon or Final Fight as their big introduction to arcade brawlers. For me, outside of licensed games like the various Ninja Turtles games or X-Men, my intro to the joy of fighting swarms of enemies with friends was the Streets of Rage series. It has been 26 years since the release of Streets of Rage 3, making Streets of Rage 4 a big deal on that fact alone. Does Sega...[Read More]

The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors (Switch) Review

The Nintendo Switch is home to truly remarkable titles if you look hard enough though one recurring trend is the return of old-school arcade games. Titles, such as the Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection bring the newer generations of players today into the founding ideas of action and arcade video games. Peering into these time capsules is fantastic, experiencing older principles in game desig...[Read More]

Whatever their reasons, whether it be jealousy, competition, or anger management an entire alien armada has successfully decimated the planet. Gunpowder on the Teeth Arcade (Switch) Review

The world is at war and it’s up to the good ol’ USA to protect democracy. Gunpowder on the Teeth Arcade from Gunpowder Team and Forever S.A has arrived for the Nintendo Switch, bringing solid action and platforming, set against a wildly distinctive visual art and animation style that evokes the militarism of the 1990s and the distinct look of Game Boy titles. With a multitude of missions, several ...[Read More]

Arcade1UP Final Fight Arcade Cabinet Review

I have gotten some time in with the line of Arcade1UP games before; at launch, I was able to check out the Rampage cabinet at great length. Despite some slight emulation issues (mainly with Gauntlet) and sizing problems (three large people on one small arcade cabinet can be tough), it turned out to be a fun alternative to owning the real deal.

ATOMIK: RunGunJumpGun (Switch) Review

I’ve only come close to rage-quitting a game once, and I don’t plan on doing so anytime soon. ATOMIK: RunGunJumpGun brought me close to the edge, while also granting me countless opportunities to laugh at myself. The objective in this 8bit-inspired indie title is to reach the finish line of over 100 puzzles while collecting “atomiks,” swirling green collectibles dotting the...[Read More]

Dragons Crown Pro (PS4) Review

Initially, I wasn’t super impressed with Dragon’s Crown Pro, which is an upgrade to a PSVita/PS3 beat-em-up RPG adventure featuring hand drawn animation by Vanillaware. What initially felt like a visual and audio upgrade for a game that would be easy to sink some time into, but would lack the energy I really wanted, transformed after sitting down for some couch co-op play. What resulted was a floo...[Read More]
