ARK: Survival Evolved Gets New Expansion and Xbox One Update!

With PAX West right around the corner, we are about to get a lot of exciting news. Studio Wildcard said once again, why wait until the event? Today they announce the release of their first expansion pack entitled Scorched Earth for their hit ARK: Survival Evolved.

You start the expansion in a new world with new creatures and new mechanics. You’re on a fiery, drought-ridden desert world, where you need to immediately search for food and water. If you survive the harsh environment of Scorched Earth, you can take your new tools, weapons and tamed friends back and forth from the Ark: Survival Evolved main game. Where you start in the desert, don’t think it will be all fun and games with finding water to drink. Players must relearn how to survive due to the new biome, filled with dunes, high desert, mountains, canyons, badlands, dragon trench, etc. Yeah, dragon trench. Doesn’t your desert have that?

In the expansion, you will be able to craft over 50 new items, spanning from outfits, structures, weapons and tools. Now you can craft tents that you can carry with you, boomerangs and flamethrowers for defense, wind turbines for clean power, and water wells and oil refineries to collect the resources that are scarce in the desert. What are you defending yourself from you may ask? The camel-like Morellatops, or maybe a freaking dragon with the new Wyvern, or maybe even a Death Worm. Damn desert, you scary.

If you thought the new creatures were all you should be worried about, I have some bad news for you. Now you even have to deal with electrical storms, sand storms, the fear of heat stroke, and using the Obelisks in the desert to face the most dangerous boss in ARK to date- the dreaded Manticore.

Um. No, not this Manticore

Scorched Earth is available today on Steam Early Access and Xbox One Game Preview for $19.99. Players must have the base version of the game in order to play Scorched Earth, since it is a true expansion pack.

As if that isn’t enough information for your headholes, Xbox One’s version of ARK: Survival Evolved is getting update v739 today. In this update, the game is getting an HD resolution upgrade to fully support 720p gameplay and 1080p UIs. Along with this, the player-created mod “Primitive+” is now officially in the game. It will include over 100 new items, weapons, structures, and mechanics that are veered towards primitive survival. This will double the content that is in the base game. Also, we get the Pelagornis, Allosaurus, Fishing rod, fishing mechanic and many more features. One thing is for sure, you are not about to run out of things to do in ARK: Survival Evolved anytime soon.
