There were lots of games across all genres and budgets in Boston for PAX East 2019. Sometimes though, it’s a port of a classic that can really stand out. I had the chance to try out two of my favorite games of all time on the Nintendo Switch – Final Fantasy X / X-2 and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age – and I loved every second of it.

This preview will likely not reveal much about what you don’t already know or can imagine of what it will feel like to play these titles on Nintendo Switch, but I will say that they ran fantastic and had me dreaming of when I’d soon be able to play these wherever I go. Square Enix has made sure to keep what fans will remember about the franchise. As with our many other hands-on previews this will be a bit short and different.

I’ve played each of these titles multiple times and playing on the Switch really felt no different than playing it on a PlayStation 4. Sure, it may not have looked quite as crisp, but it ran smoothly and I didn’t notice any hiccups or issues that would appear to cause any issues when players dive into these massive RPGs by Square Enix. I only had a chance to play these titles in docked mode, so I don’t have any insight into any performance issues while in handheld mode, which is were I plan to primarily play these, but considering these are much older titles, I am willing to give Square Enix the benefit of the doubt and would assume they will run just fine when they are out in the wild.

There isn’t much more to say, but in my opinion, that is a good thing. I really just wanted to let all of our readers know that if they are looking to jump back into these masterpieces on their Nintendo Switch, they should feel no hesitation as these Final Fantasy titles are exactly as one would remember them but now with the added benefit of going wherever you may like.
